Thyme

Another very popular herb with multiple qualities and benefits for our health is the thyme or Thymus vulgaris. It belongs to the basics of Mediterranean cuisine and not without a reason. Apart from its aroma and taste, the leaves of this aromatic herb have antiseptic and antibacterial properties, protecting against fungal, lung or other infections (acne, hair loss, cough etc.). Thyme may be used in various forms like essence, dry or as a drink.

Rose water

The rosewater is distilled water produced by boiling the flowers of citrus trees, roses or herbs. Rosewater is used as is or as basis for cosmetics. It carries the qualities of the flowers consisting it and it is an ingredient with calming, soothing, cooling, and regenerating effect on the skin.

St John’s-wort

Hypericum perforatum, known as perforate St John's-wort, is a flowering plant. It has been consistently used in folk medicine ever since classical antiquity to treat mental fatigue (anti-depressive impact) and its derived oil is well known for wound and irritated skin healing.

Lavender

Who has never placed lavender sachets in drawers and wardrobes to enjoy its fragrance or has never used a lavender soap? Lavender (scientifically Lavandula) is an aromatic as well as medicinal plant. Widely used in perfume and soap industry, but also in pharmaceuticals, mainly as essence or tee.
Lavender fights stress and melancholy, stimulates the muscles and relaxes. Additionally, it has antiseptic and pain relief capacities, helping in cases of insect bites, wound recovery and skin inflammation.

Propolis

Propolis or bee glue is a resinous mixture that bees make and use as sealant for their hive. It consists mainly of resin, beeswax, essences, pollen, enzymes and other substances. Propolis was known for its powerful qualities already since the time of Hippocrates, who was recommending it for the healing of wounds. It is especially effective in skin tissue replenishing and in mouth hygiene, because of its antibacterial and antiviral qualities. The scientific community pays special attention to the studying of propolis, which is one of the most documented natural products.

Bees wax

Bees produce the wax to build their honeycomb. However, natural beeswax is extensively used by man, since its benefits are priceless. Beeswax bears antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and healing properties, boosting skin elasticity and softness.

Calendula

Calendula officinalis is one of the most common herbs found in pots, gardens and meadows in Greece and all around temperate climate regions. Since the antiquity, calendula is being used as a healing herb and as ingredient in food, drinks and cosmetics. Pharmacological studies have shown that calendula extracts may bear antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Common calendula usage for the natural treatment of skin issues includes inflammation or infection, wound recovery, prevention or soothing of redness as well as the recovery of dry skin.

Aloe

It is referred to as aloe or aloe vera or true aloe or Barbados aloe, among others. Aloe belongs to a big family of plants found in warm, arid regions of the planet, thanks to its ability to preserve water. It is widely grown in Greece. The high percentage of water content in the particularly juicy leaves of aloe is transformed into a transparent gel, the so-called aloe gel.

This gel is known for having a soothing effect, helping in quick skin recovery after wounds, burns, sun exposure etc. Moreover, aloe is said to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant impact.

Eucalyptus

Especially high trees and in a big family of over 550 species! The species that grows in Greece, Eucalyptus globulus, exceeds the 80m. in height.

Eucalyptus leaves and its oil are particularly known to relieve the respiratory system, helping towards mucus expectoration thanks to their antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It helps in maintaining the skin healthy, but it has also a calming role, reducing stress levels. Among the many positive effects claimed for eucalyptus, it is said to boost blood microcirculation, which in turn – supported by light massage - relieves the feeling of pain in muscles and joints.
